Hours are flexible and may be shared by more than one intern.
The objective of the Science, Natural History & Features Programming department is to produce quality science documentaries that will fit successfully under PBS’s educational mission and provide viewers with informative, insightful and entertaining science programming.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for students to learn all aspects of the television production industry. Students will be involved in projects from their inception through each stage leading to final broadcast. They will see first-hand how contracts are executed, talent is booked, stories are researched, and facts are checked. They will also have the opportunity to get involved in actual post production and packaging of programs — learning exactly what is involved in getting a production ready for air and up to PBS’s technical and promotional standards.
Students will be supervised, but will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to take initiative and get more and more involved in the production process. Their responsibilities and assignments will grow more complex and involved as they learn the procedures and demonstrate their ability to multi-task and perform on deadline. There will be some errand running and general administrative work, but through this work students will have the opportunity to meet people in different departments and will realize the attention to detail required for a successful program.
